my story
When I was 16, I got a Canon Rebel (beginner's camera) and goofed off with friends. My photos were bad, but they were so much fun to take.
I graduated high school and moved to the Bay Area for college. I didn't know anyone. I still had beginner equipment. I had no experience running a business. I had only ever photographed teenagers from my high school. I hadn't even been to a wedding in over ten years!
I remember how frustrated I was. I wanted to shoot, but no one knew I existed. And even if they did, why would they work with me?
I often stayed up until 3 am researching how I could make this work. I had a lot to learn on the art side, but even more than that, I needed to build confidence and find clients.
When I went home for Thanksgiving my freshman year, I got in a big fight with my dad at an Indian restaurant. Why was he paying for my tuition when I wasting my time with photography???
Later that night, we made up. My dad told me that I was always going to win any fight because he loved me more than I loved him. He just wanted what’s best for me, and it’s scary as a parent to trust your child.
I love photography. But my dad had a point. My business had to be worth my time (and money) investment. I had family and friends and school that I couldn't neglect! If I was going to actually do this, I needed photography to not only be profitable but also emotionally fulfilling.
I stayed up more nights learning how I could make that happen.
There's no need for you to abuse your sleep schedule. I can share what I've learned through research and experience to help you turn your passion into a profitable and fulfilling business, too. Not only will you learn how to book and love on dream clients, but you'll also learn how you can gain pride in your work and control of your life.
