My cousin Alex just graduated from college in Texas. The extended family had a mini family reunion in Houston recently and during that trip, we got in a conversation about fly fishing. Alex told us how, a couple years ago, he had spent a month working on a ranch in Montana and had gone fly fishing every day after work.
Every day.
He clearly fell in love.
So my family flew him out to Utah last minute to teach us. I mean, we have a giant fly fishing store 10 minutes from our home and these gorgeous rivers for fly fishing within an HOUR. We really didn't have an excuse but we had never gone fly fishing before!
We had to remedy that.
He has a girlfriend ladies. Sorry.
Fly fishing is so different from traditional fishing. Unlike putting a worm on an hook and waiting, there is never a moment when you're not involved. The object of fly fishing is to mimic a bug landing on the water and trick a potential hungry fish.
Unfortunately, we didn't catch anything, but it was an incredible experience just to be out there in a part of Utah I had never explored before. The waders we were wearing kept my socks and pants 100% dry and warm. Which was an conflicting sensation while standing waist deep in water.
